I have a strange respect for people who can say no without writing an entire speech in their head first. I am getting better at it. For me, being kind has never meant agreeing with everything. I can be attentive, warm and patient, but I also know when something doesn't feel right for me. I think growing up is partly about learning that boundaries do not make you cold. Sometimes they are simply the most honest answer you can give. The same applies to people. I don't need everyone to like me, and I don't want to become a more convenient version of myself just to avoid disappointing someone. That realization was surprisingly freeing. I can be cheerful without always being easygoing. I can care about someone and still disagree with him. I can listen carefully and still have my own opinion. None of those things cancel each other out. Maybe that is why I am on this dating site without a long list of rules about what a man should be. I am much more interested in how I feel when we communicate. Love, for me, should not require constantly shrinking parts of yourself to keep another person comfortable. A good relationship should leave enough room for two personalities, two opinions and even two completely different moods on the same evening. Being close to someone is beautiful.
